Français hors de France

Front Cover of Français ! Hors de France !French is a language that few in France and fewer still elsewhere are capable of speaking, let alone writing, correctly. Aristocrats spoke it two hundred years ago, diplomats spoke it one hundred years ago, domestics in Britain spoke it sometime last century, certain Gabonese tribesmen speak varieties of it today. But the world does not. And while France pursues its fantasies of proselytizing the hordes with compléments d'objet directs and forming committees of green-liveried buffoons to hunt for a good translation of, say, the “penny farthing”, the world moves on in the fast lane leaving France trudging through inadequate language schooling and visitors lost.

It is all and only in French. For information in French, click to read about the book and the talk.
